• Village Events & a job that needs to be done

The Village Club and Bar will be open this coming Saturday (28th) from 8pm for convivial conversation and / or bar games. This is your club and it needs support as it also helps fund the Village Hall. Children are more than welcome if supervised.

Up and coming (details later) will be the Village Xmas Party and also at a date to be announced a “Get to to know your neighbours” event which will be very informal in which all villagers from Brampton and Oxnead will be invited to hear all about what is going on (for example – what are they doing with the phone box?) and opportunities to volunteer (no hard sells). This event will give everyone a chance to meet and talk plus (hopefully) the bar will be open afterwards.

In the meantime there is still a vacancy on the Parish Council that needs filling by co-option. We would love to hear from anyone who can give up a very few evenings a year to help their community. If you are interested please contact the Clerk or the Chairman – details on how to get of hold of them can be found elsewhere on this website.

I’m sure that most in the village will already know the sad news that Sue Baker recently passed away at home. I have been asked to let people know that the funeral is at 11:00, St Peters, Brampton on 13th April. All that knew her are welcome. Our thoughts go out to Steve and the family.

  • Litter pick 2015

Believe it or not there are grot-spots in Brampton. One of them is roughly a hamburger’s distance from the nearest burger shop, on the Norwich ring road. Journey time to here is enough to chew through a burger and to guzzle your drink before you drive through the parish. At this point it is common practice to toss all the empty containers out of the window. This is how grot-spots grow. Or so it seems.

Litter Pickers 2015Litter Pickers 2015This is why, every February, we have to have a parish litter pick – to clear up after the tossers.

It is a great relief that so many villagers are willing to give up their time during a chilly early Spring morning in order to restore some semblance of order to the pIarish highways and byways. This year twenty people turned out to do just that. An hour or so’s work, walking all the routes, generated eleven bin bags of rubbish. Very little seemed to be accidental rubbish, the sort of stuff that “blew out of the window” of that which failed to make it from the bin to the bin lorry, it generally the wrappers of the last meal. Although, bizarrely, the discarded pair of rubber gloves which individually were found under bridges which were a quarter a mile apart were a bit worrying. As were the aluminium road signs which were dumped in the hedge by the Council contractors, of all people. And the lunch bottles and containers that were thrown over the bridge parapet by some driver based at Brampton Hall – obviously in the knowledge that some one else would clear them up. That’s alright then.

Anyway. Rant over. The parish is tidier than it was. For the time being at least. Thanks to everyone who gave up their time and let’s hope that next year we find less than the eleven bags of rubbish!

  • Brampton / Oxnead Village Debate and club opening reminder

Please note that the Village Hall Club and Bar will next be open on February 28th from 8pm with a guest real ale available. All residents of Brampton and Oxnead are welcome together with accompanied friends and relatives.

    ALSO

At 7.30pm on Friday 24th April 2015 in the hall there will be a General Election debate with representatives of the Conservative, Green, Labour, Liberal-Democrat and UKIP parties. It will be a Question time type of format and present will be at least one MEP, two prospective parliamentary candidates  and other representatives able to speak for the candidates of their parties. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO ASK THE QUESTIONS AND HOLD THE PARTIES TO ACCOUNT. The bar will be opened immediately afterwards. It should be an interesting night and a chance to participate in a local hustings for the first time in Brampton / Oxnead since, at least, 1945.
