• Parking on The Street, Brampton

At a recent Parish Council meeting we discussed the issue of vehicles parked on narrow parts of The Street, Brampton, particularly near to the junction of Back Lane. This parking causes other vehicles trying to get by over further than they should go and, in turn, this damages banking and the road edges.

We understand that many people live in properties with parking space for only one vehicle when they have more than one car out of necessity. We also accept that there are no legal restrictions and do not believe that they would be helpful. However with the inevitable growth of larger vehicle traffic through the village led by supermarket delivery vans and courier services we do accept that the situation is worsening and that will continue. We have tried to find parking space in Upper Brampton but residents will be aware that there is nowhere available. In order to minimise damage we ask two things. Firstly that all vehicles should be parked with great care and sensitivity. Secondly, if there is an option between a larger and smaller vehicle it is the smaller one that should be parked on the road.

Please also note that on a date not yet notified but said to be in May 2016 The Street is to be resurfaced and residents WILL have to make alternate arrangements then. We will give as much notice as we can.

  • Brampton Spring: Easter Sunday – departures and arrivals

The morning of Easter Sunday is clear and bright. The fresh southerly breeze of yesterday afternoon has delivered change. This morning Spring migrants have arrived. Only last Thursday the Winter Thrushes, Fieldfare and Redwings, were gathering on the freshly ploughed Church Field. By Good Friday they had left for the tundra.

This morning a single Swallow swooped around Fern Cottage, vibrant chattering call announcing its arrival. The garden near Pear Tree Pyghtle echoes to the persistent call of a Chiffchaff. A flock of Golden Plover drift around on the strong breeze directly over the village; their melodic, almost mournful, whistling calls gently shower down. The flock numbers forty or so, perhaps more. They stopover for a few days in Spring and Autumn – centring on the same fields and occasionally setting off on circular flights around the parish calling as they go. To me this is the real sign that Spring is here.

  • Tonight’s PC Meeting is postponed

Please note that tonight’s meeting (9th March 2016) is postponed as Maggie has been taken unwell although hopefully it is nothing long-term or too serious. We can run a meeting without individual Councillors (I don’t feel 100% myself as it happens) but we have to have a Clerk.
Please also treat this as NOTICE that the next meeting will now be in two week’s time on 23/03/2016 although please do not action that unless Maggie confirms it first – I have given this notice to comply with the requirements. NOW CONFIRMED

  • Brampton litter pick 2016

We are grateful to those hardy souls who turned out on Saturday for the annual litter pick. They managed to select the one dry hour during and otherwise showery day and completed a thorough litter picking tour of the highways and byways of the parish. It is a strangely satisfying task although it is regrettable that it is necessary. At least now we can look forward to the Spring in the knowledge that the hedgerows do not look like a dumping ground.

  • Village Club open and an up and coming event

The Village Club and Bar will be open in the Village Hall for a period on the evening of Saturday 30th January 2016 (sorry about the short notice). The Club needs your support and it helps keep the Village Hall alive.
At 7:30pm on the evening of February 26th 2016 there will be an event in the Village Hall that we are calling “Meet the Neighbours”. We recognise that over the last couple of years there have been a number of new people coming in to the village and this is a chance for them to meet with others and also a chance for longer standing residents to meet each other and to find out what is going on in the Village. There will be a very short presentation covering the Church, Parish Council and Village Hall when issues like Better Broadband, what is happening to the Phone Box, Recycling and how it helps the village and even the state of the roads will be covered. After that meeting and on the same night the Bar and Club will be open if anyone wants to stay for a convivial chat
  • Brampton Carol Singing 2016

Thankfully Christmas Eve was a fine clear night with the moon almost full. The Brampton Carol Singers sang their way through the village and raised £198 for East Anglian Children’s Hospice through their efforts and the kind generosity (not to mention their hospitality) of the villagers.

Wishing you all a very happy Christmas.

  • NEW USE FOR Phone Box – needs your help

We are launching an appeal to put a community defibrillator in to the old phone box. There will be collection boxes at the Xmas party in the Village Hall on Saturday night (19th December from 19:30) but even if you are not going you can still contribute financially or in other ways (please contact Stuart or Mark for details or leave a message on here)
