• Brampton Debate?

During the forthcoming General Election we are considering (as a Village Hall )inviting representatives of each main party standing to a “hustings” and debate in the Village Hall. 5 minutes each to speak and then questions for the remainder of an hour then an informal evening afterwards with the bar open. Good idea or bad – please let us know?

  • Back Lane Closed

Back Lane will be closed overnight tonight as a 40 foot Portuguese registered lorry has become stuck at the bottom. It was delivering to Brampton Hall farmyard and was following the sat-nav. The police have confirmed that it would be too dangerous to back it out tonight but it should be moved shortly after daybreak on the 4th December.

Brampton has shown its best side tonight. The driver of the vehicle speaks little English and yet people have made sure he has hot drink and food.

  • Parish Council for Brampton and Oxnead needs you !!!

There is a meeting of the Brampton and Oxnead Parish Council at 7:30pm on 12th November 2014 in Brampton Village Hall. This is your council and members of the public are welcome to attend and there are opportunities to ask questions.

A vacancy also exists on the Council that we can fill by co-option so if you are interested please either come along or email the clerk on [email protected] It is a vacancy open to any residents of Brampton and Oxnead although you must be over 18 – meetings last a couple of hours at most and they take place 4 times a year although sometimes single issue meetings occur in-between. This is something really positive that you can do for your community. Training courses funded by the council are available but not compulsory.

  • Lest We Forget

There is to be a Remembrance Service at St Peters, Brampton on Sunday 9th November at 15:30 (3:30pm) – It is 100 years since the start of the so called “Great War to end all wars”. Details of our war memorial are here.

  • Power Cuts

This morning we had a power cut caused by a fire in a transformer. The cut affected a large area but we were back on a lot quicker than the initial estimate as the network switched things around. For reference in the event of a power cut information can be found by ringing 01243 508838 (select option 2). You actually speak to a helpful real person in a local call centre. If you are vulnerable for any reason you should tell them and they will take that in to account or, in extremis, make alternative arrangements for you.

  • Brampton and Oxnead Parish Council win POLLING STATION reprieve

The threat to our Polling Station in Brampton Village Hall has been lifted at least for the time being. Broadland DC were reviewing smaller polling stations with a view to merging them. Their preferred option for us was that our residents should vote in Buxton. The Parish Council objected strongly to this on the grounds that it would discourage democratic engagement. We believed and stated that you cannot put a price on democracy. After die consideration Broadland will not be recommending this change. Therefore the polling station will remain in the Village Hall.

  • Extraordinary meeting of Parish Council 8/10/2014 @ 19:30

There will be a special meeting of Brampton and Oxnead Parish Council to be held in the Village Hall at 7.30pm on the 8th October. This is to discuss the proposed possible change to the Brampton Polling Station which would see it moved from the Village Hall to Buxton. Everybody has been circulated by Broadland and asked for their views – we would also like to know what you think as, on the face of it, this is a profoundly un-democratic suggestion. If you could spare 15 minutes to attend the meeting and give your views it would be appreciated. As always please let neighbours etc know.

  • Chimney Sweep Day – all slots now taken

Chimney Sweep day on 22nd September now has all its slots taken so therefore, sadly, we cannot accept any further requests. Geoff, our intrepid Sweep, will be doing a grand total of 17 chimneys that day.

UPDATE – Whilst Geoff cannot do anymore slots on Chimney Sweep day he advises that if you let us know you want doing he will fit you in on another day.

  • CHIMNEY SWEEP DAY 2014

As last year (and a few before that) the Chimney Sweep is prepared to spend a day in Brampton and Oxnead and do as many chimneys as he can in the one day. By doing it this way he can reduce his costs and that reduction is passed on to you the customer. The cost will be the same as last year ie £35 per flue which represents a saving of between £5 & £10 per chimney. He will be coming on 22nd September and spending all day here. If you would like to take advantage please let me know with some preferred times and details of how many chimneys (flues) are involved. I will try and fit people in at their desired time but obviously not everyone can have him call at the same time so the wider range that you can give me the better it will be.

As usual please pass this on to friends and neighbours who are not on-line. The details contained in this post will also appear on the village facebook page.

Please let Stuart Wilson know as soon as possible on [email protected]
