• VILLAGE SOCIAL EVENTS

The club (that is YOUR CLUB) will be open on July 25th and August 29th. The club is held in the Village Hall which has recently undergone some renovation. The bar is open and it is a chance to meet friends and neighbours socially from 8pm. Children are welcome if accompanied (& supervised) by an adult. The club is available to all residents of Brampton and Oxnead, their friends and relatives.

For the first time in many years there will be a fete held in Brampton on August 30th – more details later but if you would like to be involved please let us know. Funds raised by the fete will be distributed equally between the Church and the Village Hall.

  • PARISH COUNCIL MEETING 16th July 2014

There will be a meeting of the Brampton and Oxnead Parish Council in the Village Hall at 7:30pm on 16th July. Members of the public are very welcome to come along. The agenda is attached to this post.

  • A new Postbox at last

Brampton finally has a new post-box to replace the one nicked last July. It’s not as nice but it is functional and hopefully less attractive to the toe-rag thieves (technical term). I am not 100% sure that it is actually in use yet – please advise if you know that it is or isn’t.

  • Village Club – do you have any ideas?

Brampton Village Hall has recently had some work done to improve it and make it more user friendly in the short to medium term whilst the longer term future is further considered. This work includes new windows. There is some further work to be done if we can fund it.

An important part of the Village Hall is the club which is open to all residents of Brampton and Oxnead. At present the club is open just once each month on the last Friday. On these Friday openings it mostly consists of the bar being open, darts etc, conversation and joviality. If I’m honest these nights often consist of the same people so it would also be nice to see you if you’ve never been before or only come along rarely.

To maximize usage and also hopefully generate some income it has been suggested that some themed events are tried (not necessarily to be held at the hall).

    Suggestions so far include -:

    1. Barbeque (summer)

    2. Fete (summer) (for those that don’t know Brampton used to hold great fete’s on The Street outside the hall)

    3. Quiz night (autumn)

    4. Food night (themed or something as simple as getting fish and chips in)

    5. A film show (I have a great old Will Hay film from the 1930’s)

    6. Talent night – “open Mike” with a twist (no Mike) – I do actually know someone starting out in stand-up who might come along for free (or a drink) and there must be lots of other talent out there.

    7. A reprise of Adrian’s 78 rpm musical soiree

    8. A race night

    9. Games night

In addition there will always be the village Christmas Parties (children’s and adults).

Can you help? Have you any ideas? We would like to get a calendar of events planned and published – is there anything that you can help with or do you have a pet project of your own that you can organize for the community?

Please let me know if you are able to help or organize something or, just as importantly, if any of the ideas above really grab you as good or bad. We will then try and get a programme out.

The hall is also available to hire very reasonably if you need it for anything.

  • Brampton Village Club opening

Brampton Village Club and bar will be open on the evening of Friday 28th February 2014 from 8pm. We are also in the process of settling the opening dates for the rest of the year. As part of that process please let us know if you have any ideas about the day(s) and time(s) we are open. Also we would love to know if you have any ideas for a themed evening event. We have recently invested some money in the Hall to improve things although more needs to be done and opening the Club is an important revenue stream for us as well as serving a social need within Brampton and Oxnead.

Ideas already for events include a Comedy Night, Musical Event, Fish and Chip night and a Quiz. In the wider community a fete may also be arranged for the first time in a number of years.

The Club is open to all residents of Brampton and also Oxnead. There is a nominal membership fee but it is so small that you will save it by purchasing more than one drink. Please us this facility which is provided voluntarily as it is a good way to meet neighbours and friends. Children are welcome but parental supervision is appreciated.

The Hall is also available to hire.

  • Potholes and minor repairs to the road

One of the biggest areas that residents complain to the Parish Council about is the condition of the roads. Strictly speaking the responsibility for road repairs lies with the County Council and anyone can report an issue thereby (hopefully) hastening its repair. There is an online form for doing this which is quick, simple and easy to use. A form has, for example, been submitted today (23/02/2014) relating to the dangerous road damage opposite The Cottage in Lower Brampton that some individual residents have complained to me about. It is a good idea for the Parish Council to keep the Highways people appraised of these incidents but it certainly does help if people can also report these things themselves. The more reports made the quicker things get seen to. It also helps if a photo or two can be taken and submitted if later requested by the Council.

Either way, if you do see something that requires dealing with, please let the Clerk know on [email protected]  or any Parish Councillor and also please let us know if you have also reported it to the County Council online. If you do use the online form can you also please let us have the allocated reference number so we can keep “an eye” on things. Many thanks.

  • Temporary Road Closure

Norfolk County Council have advised us of the following legal road closure order. The road will be closed to allow BT to undertake work and also the County Council to do some further flood alleviation repairs.

NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL proposes to make a Temporary Traffic Order affecting the U57099 Marsh Road from its junction with C494 Buxton Road eastwards for a distance of 30m in the PARISH OF BRAMPTON because of drainage work.

The road will be temporarily closed (except for access) from 10th February 2014 to 12th February 2014 for the duration of the works, expected to be about 3 days within the period.

Alternative route is via: C494 Buxton Road, U57290 Oxnead Lane, U57099 Marsham Road.

(If necessary the restriction could run for a maximum period of 18 months from the date of the Order).

Penalty: £1000 maximum fine on conviction and/or endorsement for contravention.

In the event of the start date being delayed the new start date will be displayed on site in advance.
