• Xmas events in Brampton and Oxnead

Three dates for your diary –

    1. 4pm Sunday 18th December – the annual Carol Concert in St Peters, Brampton
    2. THE ANNUAL (adults) XMAS PARTY in Brampton Village Hall from 8pm – this is traditionally a bring and share food event although that is not compulsory and your company is cordially welcome. Children are welcome is supervised.
    3. THE ANNIAL (children’s) XMAS PARTY in Brampton Village Hall at 4pm on Christmas Eve (24th December). Please let Geoff or Helen know if you would like your little ones (or grandchildren) to attend (alternatively contact us via the website)

Please try and support these events if you can.

Here’s wishing you all the compliments of the season.

  • CLUB and HALL update – important.

    1. Contrary to a previously advertised date and time the VILLAGE CLUB / BAR will now be open at 8pm on FRIDAY 28th October. Apologies for the inconvenience. THIS IS A DATE CHANGE
    2. There will be a MEETING on November 25th in the Village Hall at 7.30pm to discuss the Hall and Club and on-going arrangements. Sounds dry doesn’t it? However it has to be done – ALL WELCOME (please). It wont be that dry as the bar and CLUB will be open afterwards (about 8pm) and I am hoping that it will be another Ady “wind-up” night that are always popular although it is not confirmed yet.
    3. The Village XMAS PARTY (normally children in the afternoon and then adults in the evening) is / was scheduled for December 17th but those that were going to organise it now cannot make it and have suggested December 24th as an alternate. What do you think or is there anyone willing to take over the organisation of the children’s party on the 17th December (the adults tend to organise themselves)?
    4. There is a new NOTICEBOARD for affixing to the front of the VILLAGE HALL but we are looking for a VOLUNTEER to fix it up for us – please let the clerk know if you can help on [email protected] or speak to me (Stuart).
FINALLY – Please remember that it is the season of fireworks and “trick or treating”. Please keep both activities safe and fun.
UPDATE THE TRICK OR TREATERS IN THE ORGANISED PARTY WILL BE AROUND ON SATURDAY NIGHT 29th OCT
  • VILLAGE QUIZ 29th April

The Village Club presents a quiz including music from 8pm on 29th April 2016 in the Village Hall. Teams of 2 -4 welcome (some flexibility may be allowed). Please tell neighbours and friends as we would like a good turnout. The bar will be open and children are very welcome if supervised.

It should be a fun evening with something for everyone.

  • Village Club open and an up and coming event

The Village Club and Bar will be open in the Village Hall for a period on the evening of Saturday 30th January 2016 (sorry about the short notice). The Club needs your support and it helps keep the Village Hall alive.
At 7:30pm on the evening of February 26th 2016 there will be an event in the Village Hall that we are calling “Meet the Neighbours”. We recognise that over the last couple of years there have been a number of new people coming in to the village and this is a chance for them to meet with others and also a chance for longer standing residents to meet each other and to find out what is going on in the Village. There will be a very short presentation covering the Church, Parish Council and Village Hall when issues like Better Broadband, what is happening to the Phone Box, Recycling and how it helps the village and even the state of the roads will be covered. After that meeting and on the same night the Bar and Club will be open if anyone wants to stay for a convivial chat
  • Village Events & a job that needs to be done

The Village Club and Bar will be open this coming Saturday (28th) from 8pm for convivial conversation and / or bar games. This is your club and it needs support as it also helps fund the Village Hall. Children are more than welcome if supervised.

Up and coming (details later) will be the Village Xmas Party and also at a date to be announced a “Get to to know your neighbours” event which will be very informal in which all villagers from Brampton and Oxnead will be invited to hear all about what is going on (for example – what are they doing with the phone box?) and opportunities to volunteer (no hard sells). This event will give everyone a chance to meet and talk plus (hopefully) the bar will be open afterwards.

In the meantime there is still a vacancy on the Parish Council that needs filling by co-option. We would love to hear from anyone who can give up a very few evenings a year to help their community. If you are interested please contact the Clerk or the Chairman – details on how to get of hold of them can be found elsewhere on this website.

  • Club open 26/06/2015

I have been asked to remind everyone that the Brampton Club & Bar will be open tomorrow night (26th) and Digby has also asked me to let the beer drinkers know that he has procured a “a little pin from tipples brewery of their ‘ginger’. A light bitter enthused with ginger, it’s a really lovely beer and well with a try”!

    See you there ???

  • Village Club News and Election Debate

The Brampton Village Club will be open on the evening of Saturday 28th March 2015 and a “Guest Beer” will be available. The club is open to all residents of Brampton and Oxnead, their friends and relatives. Children are welcome if supervised. Club opens at 8pm.

There will also be a VILLAGE DEBATE in the hall followed by a Club opening on April 24th (see below). APOLOGIES TO UKIP – earlier versions of the poster had the wrong name for their contributor – I apologise (SIW)

  • Brampton Club – AUGUST 29th – change of venue

Friday night – AUGUST 29th “Village Club-on tour” at Low Farm

The Club bar is being moved to the Low Farm on Friday night in preparation for Saturday’s Fete. So, Club night will be alfresco at Low Farm, thanks to Andrew and Jill.

Could you please help and come to Low Farm to help set-up the Marquee and bring down tables and chairs? Meet at 6.00 pm at Low Farm.

Following this the bar will be open and Andrew is firing up his pizza oven! Jill and Andrew are making the Pizza bases (a contribution to the cost would be welcomed), Could you please bring your own favourite Pizza toppings.

  • VILLAGE SOCIAL EVENTS

The club (that is YOUR CLUB) will be open on July 25th and August 29th. The club is held in the Village Hall which has recently undergone some renovation. The bar is open and it is a chance to meet friends and neighbours socially from 8pm. Children are welcome if accompanied (& supervised) by an adult. The club is available to all residents of Brampton and Oxnead, their friends and relatives.

For the first time in many years there will be a fete held in Brampton on August 30th – more details later but if you would like to be involved please let us know. Funds raised by the fete will be distributed equally between the Church and the Village Hall.

  • Village Club – do you have any ideas?

Brampton Village Hall has recently had some work done to improve it and make it more user friendly in the short to medium term whilst the longer term future is further considered. This work includes new windows. There is some further work to be done if we can fund it.

An important part of the Village Hall is the club which is open to all residents of Brampton and Oxnead. At present the club is open just once each month on the last Friday. On these Friday openings it mostly consists of the bar being open, darts etc, conversation and joviality. If I’m honest these nights often consist of the same people so it would also be nice to see you if you’ve never been before or only come along rarely.

To maximize usage and also hopefully generate some income it has been suggested that some themed events are tried (not necessarily to be held at the hall).

    Suggestions so far include -:

    1. Barbeque (summer)

    2. Fete (summer) (for those that don’t know Brampton used to hold great fete’s on The Street outside the hall)

    3. Quiz night (autumn)

    4. Food night (themed or something as simple as getting fish and chips in)

    5. A film show (I have a great old Will Hay film from the 1930’s)

    6. Talent night – “open Mike” with a twist (no Mike) – I do actually know someone starting out in stand-up who might come along for free (or a drink) and there must be lots of other talent out there.

    7. A reprise of Adrian’s 78 rpm musical soiree

    8. A race night

    9. Games night

In addition there will always be the village Christmas Parties (children’s and adults).

Can you help? Have you any ideas? We would like to get a calendar of events planned and published – is there anything that you can help with or do you have a pet project of your own that you can organize for the community?

Please let me know if you are able to help or organize something or, just as importantly, if any of the ideas above really grab you as good or bad. We will then try and get a programme out.

The hall is also available to hire very reasonably if you need it for anything.
